REAL project member Eric Kioko published an article on “Conflict Resolution and Crime Surveillance in Kenya: Local Peace Committees and Nyumba Kumi” in Africa Spectrum.
The article describes local peace committees and Nyumba Kumi institutional innovations for conflict resolution and crime surveillance in the Kenyan context and questions the effectiveness of hybrid governance arrangements. Finding reveal specific complexities associated with hybrid arrangements but also show the resilience of traditional peace building despite rapid social-political and environmental dynamics.
The article is available on Open Access on the journal’s website. You can also download the pdf here.
